Познато је да музика у Мађарској има посебан статус: бригу о чувању богатог фолклорног и уметничког наслеђа систематично прате многобројне и разноврсне активности усмерене ка представљању мађарске музике у свету. На сличан начин на који се по Моцартовом имену препознају Салцбург и Аустрија, тако су и имена Франца Листа (Liszt) и Беле Бартока (Béla Bartók) заштитни, у свету јасно препознатљиви означитељи мађарског културног идентитета.
